Description

The Owl Nebula – also known as M97 and NGC3587 – is a planetary nebula about 2,030 light years away in the constellation Ursa Major. Due to its northern location and where I live, its been an excellent object for me to observe and image. Its often visible for the whole night which makes it fairly easy as an imaging target. Unfortunately I have usually found it difficult to get any detail other than the 2 blurry 'eyes'. Also, the nebula is arranged in 3 shells, I had never before managed to image the outer most part which looks like a dusty halo around the outside of the nebula. This time, I finally got it I am was pleased with the better detail that I managed to get from the nebula itself. I know it may not seem like much but its the best I've done, so far. Trying to get both the outer halo and more detail together was a challenge for me. I don't think I can do much better with my current equipment and processing knowledge.
