Description

Working on a "deep" S50 Pinwheel image.
As this project has progressed from a few hours to 10000 frames now,  it's easy to see that the  increase in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is proportional to √N.  I've been exploring different processing treatments while adopting a less is more approach as this has evolved. Will focus now on gathering data through the S50's internal LP filter. This is effectively a wide band Ha/OIII nebula filter so the red channel combined as an Ha-RGB should help make the HII regions more pronounced.

Data were acquired from my high altitude remote site ( Bortle 1) and home locations ( Bortle 3/4).from nights during Dec 2023 and March /April 2024.
Sky conditions were good to very good.

Siril simplifies multiple night compilations with large numbers ( >2000) of  files with its .fits sequence conversion capabilities. My results are similar using Siril "simplified drizzling" to PI's X2 drizzle in WBPP so I do not see any benefit to WBPP and PI for stacking large numbers of frames. YMMV. Siril is much faster and the rejection algorithms produce similar results,

Post processing using PI for DBE, SPCC,deconvolution (BXT) and minor noise reduction using NXT. Masked stretch and curve transformations.

More data to be added.
