Description

Hi,
I find planetary nebula to be fascinating, as this is what some scientist thing will be the fate of our Sun.  Messier 57 is the closest known planetary nebula to Earth.  It is so bright.  To get any detail at all you really have to play with all the tricks of imaging.  I ended up at gain 100, with 30 second images, and even that was pushing it.  I found out, after doing some research about the target, that there are faint outer bands of nebula, beyond the brighter ring.  My friend Dave from Rust Astro also imaged it and was able to just bring the outer rings out.  My initial edit did not see them, so I had him try my data.  He was able to pull them out just ever so slightly.  The other cool thing is there is a very distant galaxy in the image as well, and now you can just see that.  This final edit is with his help.  Clear Skies!
Mark
