Description

I've kicked of my 2024 Galaxy Season shooting a new group of deep sky objects in the constellation of Draco, known as 'The Draco Trio'.

The three prominent features of this wee cluster are the galaxies NGC5981, NGC5982 and NGC5985, all of which lie well over 100 million light years from Earth!

The faint middle elliptical galaxy (NGC5982) has a super massive black hole in its centre.

This target was really stretching the limits of my wee Skywatcher 130PDS, but as its a new target for me, I went for the rig that I had to hand...but will revisit this with a larger scope and more integration time I think.  I liked the fact that we can get three different shape perspectives of the constituent galaxies, so I thought this was an interesting target to shoot.

Wishing everyone a successful and (more importantly!) cloud free Galaxy Season...best wishes from Scotland!
