Description

This widefield image spanning the constellations Canis Major and Monoceros includes the Seagull Nebula (IC 2177) and Thor's Helmet (NGC 2359). The Seagull Nebula is an HII emission region about 3,650 light-years from Earth, and includes the open clusters NGC 2335 and NGC 2343. Thor's Helmet, the much smaller nebula at lower right, is an emission nebula with Wolf-Rayet star WR7 at its center (an extremely hot star in its pre-supernova stage). Its distance from Earth is about 12,000 light-years.

I had some strange gradients which I think were caused by bright moonlight. Even at 61%, the Moon seemed unusually bright - causing significant shadows on the ground.

I could only get less than 2 hours of data before the Seagull flew into the trees.
