Description

This pair of galaxies is located 40 million light years away in the constellation of Horologium at a declination of -43 degrees.  The 2 galaxies are interacting - deeper images show a faint star stream connecting them.

NGC 1512 is a barred spiral galaxy about 50,000 light years in diameter.  It has a beautiful ring structure, with a blue nuclear ring around the core and another bluish ring around the outer edge of the galaxy.  Brightened ansae are seen at each end of the bar.

NGC 1510 is a dwarf blue galaxy that is only 10,000 light years in diameter.
