Fellow friends of the night sky,

I guess I am one of the first ones that bought and used the new touptek efw (36mm version). It is the first efw I own and while I am generally pretty happy with it there are a few things that do not work to the standard I hoped for.

The main problem I have with this filter wheel are the filter masks and the little pit the filters are placed in. The filter masks while looking and feeling great have too big of an aperture for the unmounted filters I use.
For context: I am using 36mm antlia edge 4.5 nm filters + antlia lrgb. The edge blackening isn’t done to well on these. This is leading to significant light leakage if used without proper masks. —> Antlia says I could paint the edges black myself using a pen.

Anyway, the clear aperture of the touptek filter masks is 35.02 mm, the zwo filter masks for example have 34 mm in aperture (36mm version).
The other problem is the little pit you place the filter in, the filters have a bit of play in that hole, leading to even more light leakage. Reason is that the filters have enough play to reach positions where the masks aren’t able to fully cover them anymore.
I invested the last few days into designing working filter masks. I finished and tried them today and they solve the problems I had with the filter wheel.  I want to share the 3mf file with all of you, as touptek has a good price and in general good quality I guess that their efw will get a popular product.
As I know that touptek employees are reading in here —> consider changing the design of your filter mask.

for the people don’t owning an 3d printer, it would be possible for me to let an friend (who owns an 3d business) print and sell the masks but I would like to get some feedback first. The masks are designed to fit very tight on the filters and my antlia ones need a little bit of pressure (only a bit) to get into the mask. I don’t want to sell them without knowing that other filters also fit perfectly. If one of you has problems fitting the filters in, I could design the filter insert a big wider but I would only do that if necessary.

Filter Masks V2 .3mf

ps. for anyone interested, the distance of the filter wheel to the filters is 7.5mm. I got that information from touptek because I couldn’t find the information anywhere in their documentation.

pps. As this is astro i already run into the next problem. Looks like my touptek 2600mm creates an gradient from top to bottom if i expose my flats  >5sec. Not an huge problem but i don’t get why

I feel like you may just have a weird run on your antlia filters, maybe a hair smaller than normal, or maybe your masks are just a hair different in size.   My Antlia 3nm's fit without any issue in that category.     I think I remember talkin to you about this before however....  my main issue was the masks were too reflective.   I ended up painting mine and all the out of frame star issues went away.

3D printed masks are likely going to reflect even more light, so care must be taken to blacken them well.
