I don't know how far the development for AI support e.g. for all the Blur/Noise/StarXTerminator and other tools is for MAC but the spped boost with NVIDIA CUDA GPUs is significant.

Hardware acceleration (external to the CPU) on Apple Silicon chips is already embedded in the OS so you get that kind of boost, in fact probably faster on a laptop where the GPU isn't top notch.

Yes, I've read that in the meantime that the XTerminator tools are supported natively, that's great! Is Pixinsight still running in Rosetta2 or is it natively running on MacOS? I'm running Pixinsight on a Ryzen9 16core with 128GB RAM and RTX3800 / 12GB and due to not running this in an industrial level, I don't feel any lack of speed. However it's great if you use a M1/2/3 Macbook, you are running a perfomance beast and can run PI.
The important thing is, to get great results with a great software and not being an artificial number in a benchmark list.

If you are going to use windows laptop/PC for Pixinsight or Photoshop processing, HARDWARE is a must.
RAM=32Gb
SSD=1TB (storage)
External backup storage (Just in case)= 1 or 2 TB
Video Card=8Gig (Minimum)
CPU=i7 (Minimum)
Monitor=2K or 4K

Cheers...!!!

Both have advantages and disadvantages - the Mac is usually more reliable and probably faster, Photoshop works on both platforms but Affinity Photo is for Windows only - in case you do not want to spend quite some money for Photoshop and Adobe.

Actually, there is Affinity Photo for Mac, too, and  there is a powerful version even for the iPad. I am running it on Intel Mac since Serif started the program and now on my M1 MacBook Pro .

Oh, I was not aware of this....that is certainly an advantage - I like that program very much! Thanks for this information!

Affinity Photo has a native Apple Silicon (ARM) version so it absolutely flies.

I use it for my final color adjusts and crops that are just too cumbersome in PI.

Everyone’s entitled to an opinion right?

Unless you have cash to burn on a pc specifically for pixinsight, I would go for a new mac.

I prefer osx to windows as well. Pixinsight is a dog for performance, and apparently the ability to use the gpu to speed up certain add-ons is going away.

I would rather have a mac that takes 5 minutes over a pc that takes 4 minutes.

It’s a good thing any M based Mac flies through PixInsight compared to most windows machines. I couldn’t imagine waiting for a windows machine to complete.
