My name is Tim and I've been an avid photographer for over 40 years and been an amateur astronomer for nearly 30. I live in the Mojave Desert of California with my amazing wife and half German Shepherd / half Doberman Pinscher (AKA Doberman Shepherd) Po. I've trolled astrobin for many years and always enjoyed the amazing photos amateur astronomers can produce. My first "real" telescope was a Meade ETX90mm Maksutov-Cassegrain which was a big upgrade from the Sears brand refractor I got for Christmas as a kid . Over the years, I have primarily been a visual observer but recently made the change to astrophotography. It is amazing to see what's available to us today - quality equipment and amazing software at prices that only universities or government agencies could afford previously. My current stable of telescopes include a Meade series 600 115mm F7 triplet APO refractor , Explore Scientific 152mm achromat refractor, and a Celestron C8 2032mm SCT. I've recently started using Pixinsight to process images captured from the Meade APO but am certainly only beginning to grasp how powerful 9and complex) the software is. Besides deep sky imaging, I'm super interested in solar imaging as well. I look forward to learning more and developing my astrophotography skills. Clear Skies! /t |

| Hey Dan ... I live in Ridgecrest. It's a fairly small city 100 miles or so north of LA along highway 395 and often described as centrally located in the middle of nowhere - two to three hours to Death valley, Mammoth Lakes, or LA. Definitely blessed with fairly dark skies even in town. The last couple weeks haven't been that great and we're looking at another 7-10 days of clouds .... ughhh. |
