Description

Like the state from which it takes its name, the California Nebula contains many 'mountains' and 'valleys', although these are, obviously, emission nebula clouds energized by nearby stars. There's also a distinct difference in size - tens of miles versus light years, but who's counting? This image is of the northern-most region of the nebula, somewhere around Santa Rosa, CA on a terrestrial map.
