      Description

      Hello everybody,

the omicron team is very proud to present you an exceptional image of Jones-Emberson 1. Also known as the Headphone Nebula, it is a 14th magnitude planetary nebula in the constellation Lynx at a distance of 1600 light years. It is a larger planetary with low surface brightness. The 16.8-magnitude central star is a very blue white dwarf.

The object was started by Serge Brunier with 9 hours of RGB last month. Then with David Vernet we wanted to go further with luminance. We were lucky to have 3 nights with an exceptional seeing. The FWHM on the images taken without filter was between 0.85" and 1.2".

The image is special because we did not use any IR cut filter. We therefore see the universe through the nebula thanks to the infrared. As the Ha filter wasn't mounted, we did 7 hours of additional Red layer under good seeing for the extensions. I merged them into the luminance and color.

The image shows objects close to magnitude 26.

We are in awe of this object. Like an eye open to the deep universe.

Final version is a 4K crop. Please have a look at the 8K full frame here. There are thousands of galaxies :

      Enjoy it my friends.
