Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a spiral galaxy located 75 million light years away in the constellation of Hercules at a declination of +7 degrees.  It is a magnitude 11 galaxy which spans 2.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 60,000 light years.

From our view perspective, the disk is inclined about 30 degrees from edge-on.

This is one of those galaxies which has a fascinating chaotic arm structure.  The arms are distinct in some regions of the disk while being fragmented, diffuse, and not even present in others.  It looks like 3 arms are present in the bottom half of the disk while none are seen in the top half.

Numerous dense star regions are seen, including several bright blue star clouds.  Perhaps some of these, such as the blue cloud just above the core, are small dwarf companions creating disturbance in the disk.
