Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is located 180 million light years away in the constellation of Fornax at a declination of -26 degrees.  It is a magnitude 13 galaxy which spans 1.7 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 90,000 light years.

This galaxy has been classified as a barred lenticular shell galaxy.  My image is not quite deep enough to clearly bring out the shell details, but faint remnants can be seen.  These shell remnants are believed to be the result of a  “recent” mergers, perhaps several.
