Description

Hello all,

I wanted to take some images of the larger Leo galaxies for the past three years, but am only recently equipped to do so. This is a very short exposure of 11 x 180 seconds. Essentially I just wanted to tune up my rig, check if everything was working and also get Messier under my belt.

Paraphrasing wiki:

M105 or NGC 3379, is an elliptical galaxy 36.6 million light years away in the equatorial constellation of Leo. It features a SMBH at its core. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1781. This galaxy is one of a few not object-verified by Messier so omitted in the editions of his Catalogue of his era. It was appended when Helen S. Hogg found a letter by Méchain locating and describing this object which matched those aspects under its first-published name, NGC 3379.

Nearby are galaxies NGC 3384 and 3389. The latter is almost the main reason for going after M105.... a very cool little galaxy in and of itself.

Thank you for looking!

Title: Reprocess in 2024

Description: This was some nice old data, taken with my C8 edge when I was learning the ropes. I have now used this data to bring out a bit of nascent colour.
