Description

This Astrobin Debut Object, known as both NGC 7361 and IC 5237, is a spiral galaxy located 50 million light years away in the constellation of Piscis Austrinus at a declination of -30 degrees.  It is a magnitude 12.5 galaxy which spans 4 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 60,000 light years.

This galaxy has nice color contrast between the yellow central region and the blue disk.  A slight bar is seen along with a small dust lane.  A few blue star clouds are visible.  At the left outer edge of the galaxy is a faint star stream arc.

This galaxy has many features of a Magellanic galaxy, although it is a bit larger and more spiral-like than most Magellanics.
