Description

My actual first set of shots with the new EQ6-R and Z73. I didn't use dithering and wish I had given it worked quite well on the later M51 set. My subs were a bit long, getting some elongated stars. But it's good enough. I'll be back for more sometime! As for processing, I need to learn to "protect" stars when stretching to reduce bloat.

Description: Swapping over to PixInsight, touched up in AP to reduce a bit more background noise I didn't like. Maybe it should be there.. but I expect not given the DSLR noise madness. Also pulled blue up a bit for effect.

Description: Ever so slightly better processing. Removed one more sub, down to 21x120s. Combined with TGVDenoise and a "less is more" approach I'm happier with this. I moved to Affinity Photo for final small stretch and hue shift on the nebula. The Canon DSLR really shows with the noise I have to deal with but it's not as bad as on the barn door tracker!

Description: Many many changes to the processing workflow in PixInsight. Very happy with the final result though I need to work on protecting stars. Haven't bothered so far, but the stars in this version are just about the same as in the last version. The major difference is the background composition, sharpness, and color overall. I decided to keep all the subs except 2 that got some of a tree even though I notice inconsistencies in seeing. Maybe some faint clouds somewhere?

Description: Trying out a star reduction technique. I had to be pretty conservative and stick to smaller stars. Somehow all things got a bit brighter but I didn't pay too much attention to the processing after star reduction. I'll give it another go sometime I'm sure :)

Description: It's been a month and I've tweaked a lot of my process. Thought I'd come back to revisit this one. Using EZ Deconvolution and a better set of masks to process, I think the background is a little better and the nebula a wee bit sharper. I went a bit harder on S and c so it pops a little more. But still only 45 minutes, so going to have to wait something like 4+ months to be able to collect some more data. Well, start over given new camera!

Description: A month of processing learnings but I didn't spend a lot of effort on the background. Just wanted to see what I could get out of the nebula. Pushed harder on the contrast and color and if I were to spend more time on smoothing it might be better.
