Description

The microquasar SS433 is an eclipsing X-ray binary system, with the primary being a stellar-mass black hole.
The compact central object is consuming the companion star which rapidly loses mass into an accretion disc formed around the central object. The accretion disc is subject to extreme heating as it spirals into the primary and this heating causes the accretion disc to produce opposing jets of hot hydrogen along the axis of rotation.
The animation made of 3 images - July 2022 (9, 23 and 30th) - show shifted emission lines (Hα+ and Hα-)  around intense Hα (λ=6563 A).
The Hα+ and Hα- lines emitted by the object are the 2 components of a matter jet emitted by the micro quasar.
One of these components comes towards us (Hα-) the other moves away from us (Hα+).
These velocities vary due to the precession of the axis of rotation of the jet. We can roughly measure these shifts then the speed of the jet : from 10000 to 30 000 Km/s
