Description

I previously overlooked this bright planetary in Hercules. This year I decided to have a go at it. The core is quite bright, but there is an extended halo I wanted to get a better view of. You can see it trailing down (southward) from the nebula as a series of knots and faint arcs. Image processing revealed red H-alpha structures within the bright region and in bipolar outflows. See below for some basic information about the size and distance of the object and its halo:

IC4593
Type: Planetary Nebula
Size: 38 x 38 arcsec (1.6 ly across)
Magnitude: 10.84(V)
Distance: 8,806±1,064.1 ly
Abs Mag=-1.29

IC4593 (Halo)
Type: Planetary Nebula (outer halo)
Size: 0.47 x 1.56 arcmin (3.9 ly across)
Distance: 8,806±1,064.1 ly
