Description

The planetary nebula NGC 246 is something special: strong OIII and even unusually strong He II emissions give the object its striking color impression. On the left side (NW) expansion waves and the system's own motion overlap and produce higher compression and thus more luminosity. The stellar core is a binary star system. Distance about 2000 Lj.

The frames were taken during the practical introduction phase of the new 31“ Newton telescope of the IAS at Hakos, Nambia in October 2023.
