Description

Like Sh2-63 that I posted a month ago, this object is a rarely imaged very faint molecular cloud located only 350 light years away in the constellation of Serpens at a declination of +1 degrees. It is 50 arc-minutes wide, corresponding to a span of 5 light years. Like most of these clouds, not much has been written about this object in the literature.  This object is also known as LBN 44 and LBN 45.

As I also said regarding Sh2-63, I find it strange that this object was included in the Sharpless catalog of emission areas since it looks more like a molecular cloud to me.

The most interesting past of the image is galaxy NGC 6070, on the left side.  A longer focal length image of this galaxy is here and shown below.  Note the small nuclear ring around the core, which is hard to see in my image above:

Deep Sky Compendium update:
I am responding to requests from users to translate the compendium into 5 different languages - Spanish, German, Italian, Polish and Chinese.
I am currently looking for a few Spanish speaking volunteers who would be able to review the draft Spanish version over the next 2 weeks.  I have done the initial translation using online tools but I have found that the results are often poorly worded, in large part because of the many technical astronomy-specific words involved.   Please private message me if you would be willing to review the Spanish translation.
