Description

This is another one where I previously imaged this when I was just starting to learn Astrophotography, and wanted to revisit it to see how I've improved and how my new equipment makes a difference. This is completely new data, and I may post the original attempt for comparison, but maybe not. This is always a beautiful target, but very easy to blow out the core. At 5 minute subs, I did just that, and did so spectacularly!! I ended up learning a new process in PixInsight to adjust for this, and thus continue to grow in my Astrophotography journey. I'm quite surprised at the amount of detail I can extract from just 4 hours integration! I will likely spend a lot more time on this target when I can get more time imaging it per night and see what I can do with that.

The Orion Nebula (a diffuse nebula) is just over 1,300 light years from us, and approximately 12 light years across. You can actually see it in Orion's Sword with the naked eye (the middle star) but not from my backyard in a Bortle class 7/8.
