Description

Behold the beauty of NGC2244, a stunning cluster of stars located in the heart of the Rosette Nebula! This celestial wonder, also known as Caldwell 50, is about 5,200 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Monoceros.

The stars in NGC2244 were formed from the gas and dust of the Rosette Nebula, which is about 130 light-years in diameter. The cluster is relatively young, with an estimated age of only 1-2 million years, and contains hundreds of massive stars that emit intense ultraviolet radiation.

This radiation ionizes the surrounding hydrogen gas, causing it to glow in the characteristic red hue of emission nebulae. The complex interplay of gas, dust, and radiation in the Rosette Nebula has produced a rich tapestry of filaments, pillars, and bubbles that are a feast for the eyes and the mind.
