This is an image of the infamous Whirlpool Galaxy AKA M51. What makes my image special and unique is the fact that I was able to image this object using my RASA 8 at a pixel scale of 0.58 arcseconds per pixel! I had a theory that you can get the best of both worlds using a RASA 8 at F2 and a camera with really small pixels which should let you image at a small pixel scale without having to take long exposures. My theory was proved correct with the use of a modified microscope camera that uses the Sony IMX511 sensor! The IMX511 is a color CMOS sensor that has 1.12 micron pixels but at 25MP! I modified this camera that was meant to be used with microscopes by removing the IRCut window that blocked H-alpha and beyond and now I use 2 inch filters in front of it. As you can see the results were amazing and blew me away! I was able to pull out dusty details I have never seen before with M51! This give me a pixel scale of 0.58 which is small enough to capture the smallest objects but at F2!!! The camera is not cooled so it was hot pixel city! I had to use darks but just enough to remove the hot pixels, other than that the IMX511 is a clean sensor and would be nice for someone to turn this into a astronomy camera! It even can image in IR! Clear Skies!
