Description

The Jellyfish Nebula (lower right), also known as IC 443 and Sh2-248, is a supernova remnant (SNR) in the constellation Gemini. It is about 5,000 light years from Earth. The supernova that created it is estimated to have occurred between 3,000 and 30,000 years ago.

On the left side of the photo is IC 444, a reflection nebula.  In the upper left center of the frame (just to the left of HD255520 in the image) is a small (blue) planetary nebula, HoCr 1.

I initially had LBN 845 (bright nebula to the left in the image) in a green palette, but after doing a bit more research in Lynds' Catalog of Bright Nebulae, I found that this object has a brightness of 4/5 and a color of 3, which is reddish, so I adjusted the image.
