Description

This is a 5 panel mosaic, 4 main mosaic panels and a central panel to assist with mosaic registration. This is another project that began last year in early part of November and the plan was for 4 panels of 10hrs each using OSC camera and L-Extreme filter. The UK weather forced a significant delay in aquiring the data and I finished mid January as the moon began to imapct contrast on such a faint target.
I procesed this several ways, native L-Extreme and also split in Ha/Oiii and applied Foraxx script - I eventually decided on a blend of both with HOO stars.
This is a 40pct crop of the original mosaic that was 11728 x7795 pixels !!

The nebulous area has an almost spherical shell and a filamentary structure. The remnant has an apparent diameter of approximately 3 degrees, an estimated distance of approximately 3000 (±350) light-years, and an age of approximately 40,000 years. At that distance, it spans roughly 160 lightyears.

It is believed that the stellar explosion left behind a rapidly spinning neutron star known as pulsar PSR J0538+2817 in the nebula core, emitting a strong radio signal.
