Description

I took this image of NGC3199, because I felt my last image really didn't do it justice, as I had tried to cram it and RCW51 onto the same frame.  As a result it was rather pushed to one side, and I wanted to rectify that, but giving it centre stage in my next image.  To compensate for its previous poor treatment, I also imaged over two clear nights obtained 13 hours integration.

The result was pleasant surprise, with the Banana looking more like a hollowed out Blueberry than the eponymous fruit.  The structure in the nebula is rather delicate and bring Thor's Helmet to mind.  It pairs well with RCW 49, the two facing each other in a cosmic duel.  And, for me, the image is completed by the sense of depth looking into the centre oft he field.  Not unlike the Dragons of Ara.  The Banana of Carina perhaps.  Or perhaps not.

There is a lovely Ha/OIII bubble on the extreme left, which I am pretty sure is not a ghost.  Since it lines up with a catalogued object.

28 x 600 Ha
28 x 600s OIII
