I made a lot of changes to my rig for this image:
- added the ZWO EAF focuser
- running NINA to be able to auto-focus during imaging
- complete cable management change, using USB 3.0 from laptop to main camera, then short USB 2.0 cables from main camera to guide camera and EAF
- added counter-weight to balance the load better (still not perfect but much better, especially after adding the EAF)
- VERY important: realized that my back-focus was way off for my Celestron focal reducer, which needs 105 mm back-focus - I had only 67 mm!
- for this image (and M42) I only had 94.5 mm since I had read an article that claimed we needed about 9 mm less than the 105, but my plate solve is giving
an effective focal length of 1320 mm when it should be 1280 mm, so I need to keep increasing my back-focus

Temperature was 21C in the afternoon but dropped down to 6C overnight
Seeing was good at 4/5
Transparency was average to above average
Had to end my imaging session at 3:48 am because clouds were moving in...

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
