Description

The Heart Nebula is one of the most imaged targets in astrophotography. I have imaged this target many times over the last six years with three different scopes, each with its own FOV. The attached image is a summation/integration of all of those images. I would estimate that there are over one hundred hours of data collected for this image.

The interesting part of combining different captures is that you can bring in detail from a smaller FOV that would be impossible with the wide field setup. This image includes data from five different FOVs, three of which (The Fish Head, The Heart of the Heart and The Dragons) were details of particularly interesting parts of this nebula. The end result was a high resolution image that you can zoom into to see fine structures. The attached image was down-sampled to 50% of the original image to save downloading time. I can upload the higher resolution image is people are interested.

Normally I would put in all the capture details of the image. In this case let me only say that we used three scopes, the AP 130 mm Starfire GT, the RCOS 16” and the AP RH 305 mm. And there are easily over 120 hours of captured data.
