Description

This pair of nebulae has been rarely photographed due to its size and weakness, as well as being in an area rich in more colorful nebulae.
Sh2-153 is a rather dim H II region that, together with SH2-152, which is brighter, is part of a star-forming region located in the Perseus Arm at a distance of about 15,320 light-years. The ionization of the gases in the complex occurs by a blue star of the spectral class O9V, as well as by the stars of the open cluster King 10.
According to several studies, these two nebulae constitute one of the two main concentrations of a giant molecular cloud known as [UUT2000] Cloud A, which with a mass of 105,000 solar masses is one of the largest and most massive clouds known in this stretch of the arm of perseus.
