Description

Taken just before midnight on August 4th. Jupiter was low in the sky  (27 degrees altitude) and not particularly near the meridian (137 degrees azimuth) but the placement of the Great Red Spot and three of the four Galilean moons made it a good photography moment.  Ganymede is the moon farthest to the left and clearly shows a small disk with some details. Io is between Ganymede and Jupiter and also shows something more than a point source with a couple of believable bright spots that make the disk appear somewhat oblong. Europa is to the right, also convincingly showing a tiny disk.

I stacked  only the best 10 percent of 3,360 frames, otherwise the mediocre atmospheric seeing resulted in ghost images around the moons. I engaged the 5x button in the Planetary Mode of BackYard EOS when I recorded the Live View from the camera.
