Title: IC 1396 - 2 more nights
Description: Will eventually be an SHO image of the Elephant's Trunk nebula. This is just a quick processing of 4 nights of data (Ha/OIII), uploading to see how more integration helps. Processing was very minimal: Dynamic Crop, ABE, Auto STF stretch applied, Pixel Math used to create 2 intermediate images (Foraxx HOO blend and a HOO blend with Ha in R, .35 Ha +.65 OIII in G, and OIII in B). The two intermediate images were blended 50/50, Curves adjusted. Note, no noise reduction etc in these early images. Goal is obtain 20+ hours on each channel before final processing, I just need the NC skies to cooperate.

Title: IC 1396 - SII added
Description:
Gathered some SII last night. Just to get a quick look, followed the same minimal processing as the previous versions.
Stayed with a blend of standard SHO and Foraxx SHO - 50:50 and slight curves.

Title: IC 1396 - 7 nights
Description: Added more OIII and SII. More basic processing but, this time I did do some noise reduction using a trial version of NoiseXterminator. I cropped the masters, blended SHO and Foraxx SHO images at 50:50, ran noiseXterminator, minor curves, local histogram equalization, and star reduction.

Title: IC 1396 - SHO
Description:
Added more Ha last night. In total gathered 11 hours of Ha, 9.4 hours (113/133 frames) used. Total SII was 4.6 hours and 3.75 hours (45/56 frames) were usable. OIII, I gathered 13.1 hours and used 9.3 hours (112/158 frames).
Stacked and processed in Pixinsight. Stacked, calibrated, and aligned with WBPP, NSG was used prior to integration. Masters were cropped and ABE was applied. Used pixel math to create a SHO image as well as a Foraxx blend of SHO. LRGB was used to add Ha back into both and they were blended together with pixel math at 50:50. The blended image had noise reduction using noiseXterminator, curves, magenta removal and Local Histogram Equalization.

The “AstroBin Image of the Day and Top Picks”, or IOTD/TP, is a long-running system to promote beautiful, interesting, peculiar, or otherwise amazing astrophotographs, with a focus on technical excellence. Learn more.
Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration. | ... |
---|---|
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew. | |
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected. | |
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status. | |
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members. |
This image cannot be submitted for the IOTD/TP consideration.
