Description

The predictions for this night were excellent with an excepted kp-value of 5, but in reality the space weather was very low for the entire day (kp1). I went for a few kilometer long hike with my camera at around 2pm, looking for new locations to photograph the lights, but ended up heading home eventually due to the extended low activity in space weather. I had a cup of tea and spent some time at home until I checked the all-sky camera of another village in the far-north of Finland. the sky there corresponds quite accurately to what's in mine. It had some colorful aurora arcs quite high in the sky so I ran outside, hoping to get some nice reflection photos from the frozen lake. it's not every year this is possible, but this year the conditions exist so I tried it. The lake had only just frozen, but it is not recommended to walk on it yet or at least not to go far. I stayed near the shore where its not too deep, but at one point when I took 10 steps further the lake made a really loud echoing noise, which it does at times when its freezing. That gave me a heart attack.
