Description

The dark nebulae in this photo are part of a complex of Bok globules that are dark filaments of dust radiating towards the center of the Rosette nebula (NGC 2244), 6000 light-years away. It is thought that these blobs will eventually form stars or planets as they coalesce. Named after the Dutch-American astronomer Bart Bok.
