Description

The nebula Sharpless 308 (SH2-308) is an emission nebula located in the constellation Canis Major. Known as the "Dolphin Nebula" due to its distinctive shape, it is primarily composed of ionized gas, whose light emission is triggered by the intense ultraviolet radiation from young and hot stars within it. The exact distance of the nebula is not precisely known, but estimates suggest it is approximately 5,200 light-years from Earth. The nebula is an active site of stellar formation, and observations at different wavelengths help understand its structure and properties.
