Description

The image shows three named craters close to the terminator five days after the August full moon.  Theophillus and Cyrillus are  large impact craters located on the edge of the Mare Nectaris. Just to the  East is the much smaller crater Madler.  Theophillus is more than 4 km deep and  shadows cast in this image reveal  its deep outer wall as well as the shadows of the 2 km high  triple-peaked mountain in the center of the crater. Cyrullus, to the Southwest,  has three smaller mountains, that cast a shorter shadow than the peaks of the neighboring crater.

The level of detail compares well with this oblique view taken in 1967 from the Luna Orbiter 3  https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Theophilus_crater_3078_med.jpg
