Description

The Seagull's wings are spread across the field of view in this mosaic of two DSLR tiles. It is located in the northern part of the constellation Canis Major and includes star clusters,  an HII region and interstellar dust clouds. Energetic young stars ionize the hydrogen to glow red while the light from hot blue stars is reflected off surrounding dust to create patches of blue.

This was my first attempt at a mosaic with the Paracorr coma corrector. I had a lopsided acquisition sequence with more subs in one tile than the other but decided to process it anyway. Panorama Studio actually blended the two fairly well with minimal touch-up required.

Instrumentation: 152mm F/4 Newtonian, Paracorr, AP 1200GTO Mount, EOS 700D, 50mm Lodestar guider
Subs: mosaic of 48 x 300s  left side and 30 x 300s right side, OSC, ave integration 3.25 hrs
Orientation: North is to the left, nom FOV 1.8° x 1.2°
Acquisition software: SGP, PHD2
Processing: Pixinsight, StarNet++, Topaz Denoise AI, Panorama Studio, GIMP
