Description

This Messier globular cluster is located 33,000 light years away in the constellation of Scorpius at a declination of -23 degrees.  It is a magnitude 7.3 cluster which spans 9 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 90 light years.

As compared to other Messier globular clusters, this cluster is concentrated, with a Shapley–Sawyer Rating of 2 (out of 12).  As such, the stars in the center of the cluster are difficult to resolve.
