Description

The Horsehead Nebula (IC 434) is located in the constellation Orion, 1,500 light-years away from the Earth. It is called the Horsehead Nebula because its shape closely resembles the silhouette of a horse's head. The red part behind the nebula is produced by hydrogen ionized by the nearby Sigma Orionis, while the dark part consists of thick dark nebulae.
