Description

The Crescent Nebula in the middle of this image is unusual in that it is formed by a Wolf-Rayet star who's fast solar wind is colliding with slower moving matter ejected from the star when it became a red giant.  This emission is high in Oxygen which is why it shows up as blue in this SHO narrow band image.  This shows an immense area of nebulosity and stars making up a small part of the Milky way in constellation of Cygnus.  Several other objects are visible including the tulip nebula on the left, the Sadr Region on the top right, also sometimes referred to as the Heart of Cygnus or the Secret Heart of the Night.

The data to construct this image took 5 nights to acquire in June of 2021, and a couple days of processing (off and on).  Most of this data was acquired from Bainbridge Island Washington, except one night on the Yakima River between Ellensburg and Yakima.
