Description

There are very few stars in this picture, taken last night from my back garden. These are all GALAXIES, each containing up to a million billion stars. Known as the Coma Cluster it contains over 1,000 identified galaxies located in Coma Berenices. Along with the Leo Cluster, it is one of the two major clusters comprising the Coma Supercluster. The central region is dominated by two supergiant elliptical galaxies: NGC 4874 and NGC 4889 both containing super-massive black holes. The cluster's mean distance from Earth is about 320 million light years from the Earth. This is my first "deep field" photograph of multiple galaxies
