Description

Here we have a new M5 globular cluster image I have recently shot.  Messier 5 (NGC 5904), a globular cluster in Serpens. M5 is located approximately 24,500 light years away and contains somewhere between 100,000 and 500,000 stars. It has a diameter of approximately 165 light years.

I had forgotten that I had originally done this one back in 2019 while I was at the beginning of my astrophotography journey so I was happy for the opportunity to compare that image to this one.  The main differences, aside from 3-years of experience, would be autofocusing versus periodic Bahtinov mask manual focusing and the use of a monchrome camera versus OSC.  And maybe better collimation...

Here is the link to my 2019 version https://astrob.in/404168/B/.  I was so happy with this one and had received a lot of help from some very generous Astrobin guys Fritz and Frank Breslawski.

I was pleased with this image and really tried to be conservative with the color.  I think I captured the blue stragglers in a reasonable way without overdoing the saturation.

Anyway, I hope you like this one, CS and good health!
