Description

Crescent moon - 100% crop from 8(?) stacked subexposures_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Image Scale = 1.11 arc-second/pixel _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Date: 2011/05/07_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Exposure: 8(?) out of 13 x 1/80 sec at approximately f/9, ISO 100 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Lens: Nikon 800mm f/5.6 ED AI-S at about f/9 (seemed sharper than f/5.6, f/8, or f/11) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Camera : unmodified Canon T2i = 550D _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Mount: Astro-Physics AP900 -- rough polar alignment (no drift alignment) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Processing: Focusing via EOS utility live view, exposures made from live view mode (EFSC active, so no mirror slap or first shutter curtain shake?). 13 individual shots cropped to 1800 x 1000 with Photoshop CS4 to do rough alignment (Registax does not like exposures unless they are approximately aligned first). Alignment and stacking in Registax 5 with "50% drizzle". The intention was to keep the best 8 out of the 13 frames in the stack (there was no confirmation of this). The stacked output was saved as a single 3599 x 1999 TIF, and then "wavelets" processing was done with the default settings. This seemed to have no effect, so the wavelets output was ignored. Photoshop CS4 levels adjustment and unsharp mask processing was done, along with downsizing back to 1800 x 1000 and JPEG conversion (quality = 11). No useful colors were present, so the image was completely desaturated.
