Description

My intention was to image this globular cluster catching the PN GJJGC 1 located close to the core. A strange wind started blowing and I switched the camera to an OSC and shortened the subs to only 5 minutes. When I collected 20 frames the sky got cloudy and in a couple of minutes the rain started, I was lucky to get this image!!

M 22 is distant from solar system by 10 thousands LY, has an apparent size of 17 arc minutes and age of 12-14 billion years. Its mass is about 1/2 million Suns !!

An interesting effect of transient brightening has been obseverved in stars on the other side of the bulge of our galaxy belonging to the same star field of M 22, this is, in the our line of sight passing by the galactic bulge and M 22. The explanation for this is still to come.

As mentioned, the image was taken with a osc CCD, afocal in a RC-8. 20 frames of 300sec has been collected.
