Description

My first three image posts here on Astrobin will be 'special moment' collages that hint at a key aspect of 'backyard astronomy' that I very much enjoy: experiencing & feeling the scale of Space.

Collage #1: 'Cheshire Moon'

I love the 'Cheshire Moon' smiling thin crescent of the first few days (or the last few days) of the Earth's Moon cycle.

This is my favorite phase in the 80mm scope with a 14mm 82deg eyepiece (or 127mm scope with the 30mm 82deg eyepiece) because the 'golden' curving arc of the terminator helps reveal the Moon as a real 3D sphere in space.

I also very much enjoy pondering the ecliptic plane while enjoying the crescent through the changing nature of the dusk & dawn twilight sky colors.

The dynamic range & portability of the Sony RX-100 (Mark 1 & Mark 3) definitely helped me to convieniently capture such moments.
