Description

Honestly, I'm surprised I was able to coax this image out of the fairly meager data I was able to collect over three evenings here in AZ in a packed RV park. I was shooting with a C6 (reduced to 1237 mm FL), using a probably-inadequate 200 mm guide scope, on a cantankerous iOptron GEM28 mount. Guiding was pretty poor, and the mount had a habit of stopping its tracking at random times for yet unknown reasons, so I had to babysit much of the imaging time. Frankly, I think I need to do a teardown of the mount to see if I can get to the bottom of the guiding and tracking issues. But PixInsight (along with BlurXT and NoiseXT) saved the day. The raw data had lousy bloated oval stars, but PI magically fixed all that. More time on target would have definitely improved this image. This was shot in narrowband Ha/SII/OIII and processed as SHO. RGB stars were shot seperately and added to the SHO nebula.
