Description

The Sunflower Galaxy, or M 63, is a beautiful flocculent spiral galaxy in the constellation of Canes Venatici as seen from the Earth. Home to over 400 billion stars, this galaxy is estimated to be approximately 29.3 million light years away. Although appearing to only have two spiral arms, many are visible winding around the yellow core when captured with sufficient detail and not saturating the core, like I tried to do in this image.

Capturing just over 26 hours of data took 9 days between late February and early March. I've processed this image 3 times so far completely from scratch each time, first on 03/08, then again 5 days later on 03/13, and eventually today 04/05, in essence putting in a significant fraction of time compared to the data capture itself as I simply wasn't happy with the original two results! Hope you enjoy!
