Description

This is a composite image using the tone map layer from my earlier post of the Soul Nebula (http://www.astrobin.com/145508/B/ ) as the color layer and a greyscale version of an infrared (IR) image from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope (Credit NASA/JPL-Caltech/L Allen and X. Koenig, Harvard-Smithsonian CfA http://www.spitzer.caltech.edu/images/1953-ssc2008-15a1-W5-Star-Formation-Region ) as the luminosity layer. The IR image highlights the star-forming regions.

Notice that the dark nebula regions of the Hubble Pallette image, http://www.astrobin.com/145508/B/, and the H-alpha image, http://www.astrobin.com/145181/, are the bright areas of the IR image. That is, the colder, but still radiating regions of the nebula.
