Description

Flame and Horsehead Nebula: The Flame is an emission nebula in constellation Orion. The bright star near the Flame is Alnitak in Orion's belt, which shines UV light causing hydrogen electrons to get knocked up to higher orbits. The glow occurs when these electrons fall back to the 2nd orbit level. The Horsehead Nebula is about 1500 light years away and is part of an active stellar nursery. Decidedly chose to keep this a mono chrome image which is a composite of 5 individual Hydrogen Alpha filtered images, 10 minutes exposure each, total 50minutes.
