Description

NGC514 is an intermediate spiral galaxy approximately 100 million light-years from the Milky Way. Magnitude is 11.9 with a surface brightness of 14.2. Steve Coe, using a 13.1" f/5.6, notes: "NGC514 Pretty faint, large, elongated 1.5 X 1 in PA 90, very gradually somewhat brighter in the middle at 135X. There is a 12th magnitude double star near the eastern side of the galaxy, near a 9th mag star. At one hundred million light years away, NGC 514 floats majestically in front of a myriad of background galaxies. Discovered by William Herschel.
