Description

NGC3199  and NGC3247 are located in the constellation of Carina. NGC3199 is an emission nebula discovered by James Dunlop in 1826. It is thought to be the result of a bow shock from the Wolf-Rayet star called WR18, hence its rather horrible name, the Banana nebula. Consistent with horrible names, NGC3247 is also called the Whirling Dervish nebula.  This is a massive Hii and star forming region also known as RCW49.
